Villa del Allenatore, Italy

Villa del Allenatore is an old abandoned Italian house. This location is also called Coach’s Villa. The residence was apparently once the home of a football coach and sports enthusiast. It is said this football coach trained a local team. He loved training up children and passing on his enthusiasm for the beautiful game. We visited this location in the summer of 2018, as we travelled across Italy.

The dining area features beautiful fresco ceilings and old wooden furniture, with much football-related paraphernalia. There are trophies and team photos, as well as several footballs dotted around. On an old desk, featuring a golden trophy with an engraved footballer kicking a ball. The living room features two retro leather sofas, in a classic maroon/dark red colour.

Upstairs the landing area features another wonderful fresco ceiling, as well as blue floral patterns painted onto the walls. There are bedrooms leading off from the landing. The master bedroom of Villa del Allenatore is a baby pink colour, with matching blanket on the bed. As the bright Italian summer sunshine filters in through the window, the room feels warm and welcoming. There are ladies purses and bags and a coat, neatly hanging from a small coat rack. The second bedroom features another fresco ceiling, in a similar style to the one above the landing. The furniture in both bedrooms appears to be from the 1970s, or perhaps earlier.

In the garden is a small and simple family chapel, painted a delicate pink. There was once a painting above the altar, but that had sadly disappeared by the time we visited Villa del Allenatore.

The Coach’s Villa…and the mosquitos

The entire area is swarming with mosquitos, seemingly making themselves at home here as they move freely in and out of all the open windows. We didn’t stay long at Villa del Allenatore, as we were rapidly running out of blood. We nearly missed the chapel as we hurried out back to the safety of the car (and a large supply of insect repellent).
