Every abandoned place has a story, it seems. Some are dramatic or sad, some are dark and mysterious. A lot of the time, the discoverer of the location has the privilege of naming the location. The names range from simple (a hospital in Liverpool, becomes Hospital L), to bizarre-yet-appropriate (Maison Sex Drugs and Rock n Roll, springs to mind…..ahem). Some lay shrouded in mystery, the origins only known to those who designated it (Eglise MM, anyone…*tumbleweed*?)
This one, however, certainly is straightforward in nature. Laundry Day. An abandoned washing line. Yes. That is it, no obscurity in nomenclature with this one. The “backstory” is that the owner now lives with her grandson, but he often returns to tend the garden and to feed the stray cats. The upstairs of the house has clearly had a fire, it is thought this may have been the reason she left. We saw some cats, so perhaps the story is true (or…there were just some cats). Either way, I present for your viewing enjoyment a derpy washing line.
Ever have one of those “why am I doing this?” moments? I think this was one of those situations for me. Racing against time, the ferry departure looming and still a few hours drive to cover. “We could just about do Diesel Farm…if we hurry. Oh wait “Laundry Day” is en route, let’s check that out first”. For some unknown reason, we did. Would I rather have had a bit longer in Diesel Farm, and miss this? Heck no! This is simply too bizarre to miss out on.
No evading security like stealthy ninjas in the dead of night, or abseiling into a flooded tunnel filled with sharks with lasers on their heads. No tales of being charged at by farmers brandishing melee weapons. I don’t even feel the need to generate a clickbait title, evoking images of murder most foul before the owner could dry their unmentionables in the summer sun. No references to “in-jokes” that only a few people who were there will understand, because it renders the tales and anecdotes unrelatable to the rest of your viewers (and who wants that)!
p.s – If you read this far……Happy Aprils Fools Day :p
