Villa PDO is a large abandoned house in Italy. The location is also sometimes called Villa Zombo. The house is just visible from the road, behind imposing large iron gates. The front driveway is very overgrown. The dense vegetation hinting at years of neglect as it is now choked with vegetation.
The outside of the house is relatively plain, and is painted white. In fact, this location is one of the more modern Italian villas which we visited on our journey. Around the back of Villa PDO / Villa Zombo is an overgrown empty swimming pool. Sadly, by the time of our visit the beautiful chandeliers had been stolen. Only one chandelier remained smashed on the ground floor. This is likely due to a clumsy attempt to remove it.
The spiral staircase is quite unusual, sporting a plus red velvet-covered handrail. This is supported by black metal uprights, featuring stylised greyhounds. The dogs appear to be leaping and bounding up the staircase towards their master’s bedrooms. It is said the owner of this Villa PDO / Villa Zombo was a dog breeder. This may offer an explanation for this unique staircase design.
The master bedroom of Villa PDO is the only other feature of interest in this house. This oddly shaped room features painted walls and ceiling, reminiscent of the true classical Italian villas. The ceiling is painted with cherubs and floral-themed motifs. The walls feature scenes of Romanesque toga-gowned ladies relaxing around gardens and fountains, while men pour water from ornamental vases. These angelic relaxing Italians wear floral wreaths on their heads as they frolic in the lush gardens, seemingly living a carefree life of leisure.
Forest scenes decorate the wall either side of the bed. However, a large empty area above the headboard hints at the presence of a removed painting. The bed is a rather plain black metal modern frame, which looks a little strange against the lavish wall art. This bedroom is certainly a unique part of Villa Zombo / VIlla PDO.
