The Uncaring Home, England

The Uncaring Home is an abandoned care home in England. It was closed around 5 years ago due to appalling and unsanitary conditions. The owners were sentenced for their neglectful practices. The house now stands empty, slowly succumbing to water ingress and collapse.

This late 19th Century Tudor Gothic-style manor house was originally the home to a wealthy cotton merchant. It later served as a maternity home for mothers and infants during the first half of the 20th Century, owned by the Salvation Army. The site became a children’s home in the 1970’s, before eventually became a nursing home.

At the time of the forced closure, there were around 45 patients living in the manor house. The care home had a long recorded history of being understaffed. The inspectors finally blew the whistle due to neglectful practices; most rooms frequently had no hot water, residents were kept in dirty conditions and the building was also in a poor state of repair.

    • It was quite a nice building, but the walls levering away and floors collapsing. I visited back in 2016, I think it is still standing though (just about)
