Manor GT is a historic and listed building in southern England, surrounded by rolling countryside. The modern foundations were laid in the early 18th Century, and extended in the mid 19th Century. The manor has been neglected since at least the 1980’s, and attempts to restore it to its former glory seem to have come to a halt. Part of the manor house has already been renovated, and is inhabited. Although the rest of the manor is garbed in scaffold, there doesn’t appear to have been any active restoration activity for some time.
The manor was built on the site of a demolished 16/17th Century manor house. The first settlement on this land dates back to the Anglo-Saxon era, around 990 and it is recorded in the Domesday Book of King William the Conqueror. The house has been a home to nobility from representatives of many factions over the eras; from an Arch Bishop and Norman aristocrats, to high-ranking members of the Royalist forces during the English Civil War.
Several areas of the upper floors have collapsed after decades of neglect, succumbing to water ingress from the dilapidated roof. The empty limestone corridors feature various arches and decorative Corinthian-style columns. A ground floor room in the west-wing is circular in shape, and features a shallow domed ceiling.
The most beautiful room in the house is on one of the upper floors. The room has a stunning dark-coloured wooden ceiling, supported by wooden arches with ornate carved decorations. The walls are lined with olive-green wallpaper. There are several book cases in this room, suggesting this may have been a library or study.
