Maison Therese is a small and simple abandoned house in France. I explored this location during the Belgium/France Spring 2022 – The Short And Sweet Tour. From the outside, it is clear the small single storey house has been abandoned for some time. Telltale signs; wild unchecked vegetation and all the shutter closed. We venture down the path towards the rear of the property. And so, this short and sweet explore of this lost place begins!
At some point, it appears that the Maison Therese was extended. A large room spans the entire length of the house on the rear side, seemingly a later addition. It seems to be a mix of a mixed function area; conservatory, sitting room, laundry area as well as as a place for potting plants. There is a dusty orange sofa and two chairs pushed in a corner. They create an interesting photographic scene, thanks to invading ivy cascading down from the skylight and in through the broken door. The ivy also creepers across the chairs and floor, the green contrasting with the orange leather three piece suite and footstool.
Moving into the main building of Maison Therese, most is dark and packed with a chaotic assortment of personal belongings and trash. Sadly, most of the house has been ransacked and is in disarray. Because of this, there are only a few appealing photographs to collect inside.
The living room is wonderfully charming, as is the case in these smaller abandoned French houses. There is the usual carved wooden furniture one comes to expect in these abandoned houses. Additionally, the room is warm and inviting with the afternoon sun peaking through one unshuttered window.
The study room was a wonderful surprise. The vintage writing desk was littered with interesting trinkets, including a framed photograph of a couple. Perhaps the people were the last owners of Maison Therese.
