Years of unchecked vegetation growth have almost completely obscured Green Stove Cottage from view. Clearly this humble home has been empty for some time. A calendar on the wall suggests that this charming Irish cottage may have been abandoned in 2006.
I explored this location during one of my Ireland 2023 Road Trip(s). I pushed through brambles, and crawled under and around tree branches to get to the front door. It has been a while since I explored such a (relatively) untouched abandoned home such as this. Additionally, the blessing of wonderful afternoon light gave this little abode a warm welcoming air for my photos.
The front door of Green Stove Cottage opens into a small kitchen and dining room. The old green stove is thick with grease from meals cooked long ago, by someone who has likely now passed on. Surrounding the stove are white and green tiles. Above the stove the wall has black mould. On the table beside the window is an old CRT TV and a disorganised collection of plates and other kitchen paraphernalia. Decorative plates are stacked kitchen cupboard shelves, the doors hang slightly open giving them an untidy appearance. The calendar on the wall, next to the hanging tea towels, is from January 2006.
The upstairs bedroom is more decayed, thanks to a leaking roof. There is an old suitcase here, with paperwork scattered on the floor around it. The curtains have fallen from the wall, but someone has piled them untidily on a chair that stands next to the bed. On a table is a portrait of The Seven Sorrows of Mary.
There is also another stove in a little outbuilding, which made a nice bonus photo on the way back to the car.

Wow nice wish we knew what happened to the family
Thanks Lorrie! This one does seem a mystery, one that may never be solved sadly

Thanks so much Kees!
Great find! How did you know about this (in order to search and find this) if the place lay completely buried in vegetation and forgotten? It’s obvious why you call it the “green stove cottage,” though.
Btw, what is in the space behind the kitchen stove? Is it the staircase to the bedroom upstairs? A bathroom? Closet? Just curious. Where does the second doorway, at the side of the kitchen stove lead to? Too bad you couldn’t get more of this location. It’s intriguing to me. What about the space behind the stove in the outhouse?
Did you notice any graves/tombstones nearby? That would have added an eerie effect to the location. I wonder where the last resident moved to? hmm.
This one was a location my friend knew about, so we went to visit while I was in Ireland. Found a few more like this as random finds while in the same trip, the Irish countryside is littered with them!
The space behind the stove, accessed by the passway to the left of it, was a small room stuffed full of rubbish. Not sure I saw an indoor bathroom, now you mention it. Just those two rooms downstairs. Upstairs there was the bedroom I photographed, as well as another bedroom that was half collapsed and too full of junk to get a good view of photos.
The doorway to the stove in the outbuilding, not sure I checked actually as I was in a rush. Maybe it was the missing bathroom!
No graves or anything sinister here, just a lonely lost house left without an owner. Looks like an old person lived here, at the end most likely they were alone as there was only one small bed. I suspect they passed on 🖤
