April 2023 Update – I’ve been contacted by the owner who informed me that this location is now inhabited and presently undergoing renovation. As we speak, the renovation process is ongoing. The owner kindly requests that people respect their privacy and give them space to renovate this magnificent chateau without disturbance.
Château Assassin’s Creed is a large 18th-century castle in France. It sits in the centre of a large and ancient estate. We visited Château Assassin’s Creed in the the spring of 2018, as we explored many beautiful French chateaus.
The chateau was built by a distinguished family which owns much land in France. Interestingly historical accounts indicate they had been wealthy and important since records began. In the early days, they were lords, knights and aldermen. Subsequently, there were also more recent military figures. These include a regimental captain and a lieutenant. In fact, many family members entered army service, earning awards and medals. One member of the family was even secretary to the king. This house was their grand home, befitting of their grandeur.
This family aspired to imitate Palace of Versailles. Château Assassin’s Creed stands at the heart of once-grand gardens. Originally there were several fountains. The estate also includes a farm, as well as a stable block next to the chateau. The house has an entry within the historical monuments register.
The family still lives on today, elsewhere. Correspondingly It is a mystery why the chateau lays empty and neglected. Some postulate that inheritance fees were so high the heirs could not claim the chateau. Perhaps restoration fees prevented an insurmountable hurdle. It is also possible that the maintenance costs were simply deemed too high. Whatever the reason, the family chose to live elsewhere.
I am pleased to announce that this location is getting the second chance it deserves. Chateau Assassins Creed is now under private ownership and renovation work, it is no longer an urbex spot or a lost place.
From the outside, Château Assassin’s Creed is a shadow of its former self. The gardens are overgrown and choked with weeds. The once flowing fountains are now empty, and broken.
Inside, you can travel back to a time of elegance and glory. There are many pieces of vintage furniture and ornate mirrors hang in every room. Old musty books line the shelves. Personal items still lay on tables beneath a layer of dust. There are main portraits and photo albums depicting the former residents.
One of the most interesting rooms of Château Assassin’s Creed lies in the cellar. This is a true man cave. There is a billiard table with ornately carved woodwork. There is also a fire and rustic sofas. The perfect place for a lord and gentleman to spend an evening reading or relaxing.
