The Tabernacle Baptist Church was built around 1905. The building was originally a Presbyterian Church, but changed denomination sometime in the 1970’s. The congregation relocated to another church, as the roof began to buckle and collapse.
Nowadays the church is filled with pigeons, and piles of rubble and rubbish scattered everywhere. The stairs and floor are collapsing in several areas. A lot of the windows have been smashed, and boarded up in a slap-dashed fashion.
The building was designed by a once prominent local architect, who had recently won a large government contract to design the State Capitol building a few short years before. Only a few years after this church was built he was convicted of “graft”; purchasing materials to build to Capitol building from from very specific third parties at highly inflated prices, in order to misdirect government funds for personal gain. The state instigation team became suspicious when the total cost of the project was nearly triple of what was originally approved, and he was convicted of corruptions along with four other people. The group were sentenced to prison for two years.

So sad to see such a beautiful and holy place fall into disrepair!
I agree, there is something especially sad about a crumbling church which is likely beyond salvation :(.
