Allo, la Boucherie Sanzot?

Allo, la Boucherie Sanzot? is an abandoned old-fashioned butchers shop and house in Belgium. This location appears to have been named by a fan of the Tin Tin comics, with a distinct reference to a butcher/butcher’s shop which features in the series. The location is also known as “La Boucherie Gepetto”, which appears to perhaps be an older name.

The wooden chopping block is gouged and knicked from years of hacking and slashing as the butcher cut meat to order. Mallets, knives and sharpening tools still sit on the block (the knife’s artisitc pose likely staged by a previous photographer). Backing onto the shop window is a retro-looking mincer.

Allo, la Boucherie Sanzot? – The ld-fashioned butcher shop

Allo, la Boucherie Sanzot? is an old-fashioned butchers shop, a quaint time capsule of a time when small independent establishments dotted the streets of Europe. The shop is a single room, with minimalistic white tiled walls. Hooks line the wall, where the butcher’s meats would be hung on display. Under the hooks is a list of meat products for sale; runds, kalfs and varkens (beef, veal and pork). There is also a sign confirming this butcher sold locally sourced fresh meat (vers inlands vlees)

There is also living room and kitchen/dining area on the ground floor, on corridors leading off from the shop area. Tucked away on the far side of the living room, is a small office with and old heavy wooden desk and vintage lamps. Upstairs there are three bedrooms; two double bedrooms, and a child’s room with many board games and some toys.

There is very little information available about Allo, la Boucherie Sanzot?. It is not known precisely when this business closed, or when the house was vacated. The house seems to be at least several years disused, based on how overgrown the garden is. It may be likely that the owners either retired or closed up shop as customers dwindled and went to larger chain-store supermarkets.
