La Morgue Prélude is an abandoned mortuary located in France. This classic location, featuring a pristine mortuary complete with body slab and cadaver fridges. We visited this location during our Kolossal Tour September 2017.
The mortuary stands within an expansive hospital complex, which was opened in the 1860s. The site is still used, at least in part. However, the hospital is peppered with abandoned buildings. Tucked away between the more active buildings.
The mortuary of La Morgue Prélude building is very clean. It is said that it is occasionally used as a filming location. Interestingly, one of the slabs has been removed. Perhaps to accommodate filming equipment and crews, if it is indeed used as a set piece from time to time. When we visited, the mobile body trolley was positioned in the space where the second sab would have stood.
On the other side of the corridor are body fridges. These fridges features the usual heavy handles, and metal numbers seen in cadaver storages. Inside each fridge is a single stainless steel trolley, or gurney.
I can often repeat myself, which is a personality quirk I am aware of. I try to improve, but this is one occasion where it has registered once more. Many of my recent posts explain that due to failing light at the end of a long day, I feel I took less images than I would have liked.
This is another of those situations at La Morgue Prélude. We were driving towards our hotel for the night. One of the group flagged that we were passing nearby. After a failed attempt a few years ago, I was keen for a second attempt.
We only had a few minutes to take photos, so we split up. I started in the body fridge room of La Morgue Prélude. My companions photographed the slab. After a flurry of shutter clicks, we switched places. Another fluffy of shutter clicks and frantic tripod re-positions. An easy climb out and we were done for the day and continued on our journey to food, showers, and sleep.
