Mayday Mayday / Lost Plane, Belgium

The Grounded Navion Framed Fine Art Print By Obsidian Urbex Photography Frame Detail Photo

The Grounded Navion – Framed/Unframed Fine Art Print now available.

Mayday Mayday! There is a lost plane abandoned in the woods in Belgium. This small blue airplane lies hidden in the forest, shadowed by trees. A little too well hidden, perhaps. I took us quite a while to find the tiny plane (despite it being bright blue!). Eventually, our persistence was rewarded. After a good nights sleep wild camping in the woods nearby, this lost plane was the start of an excellent day. We visited this location during the Belgium Winter 2019 – The Pre-Brexit Tour.

What is the story of Mayday, Mayday – The Lost Blue Plane in the woods

A dramatic story of a lost plane crashed in the woods, although exciting, simply is not accurate. A little thought can deduce this fact. The plane is quite intact, the wings are neatly detached and lay next to the plane. A plane that has crashed would spread wreckage over a large area. Certainly, the wings would have collided with trees and lie in ruin some distance from the fuselage.

In reality, this plane is a movie star! The plane was brought here to film scenes in a short film, several years ago. For some reason, the crew did not remove it. Because of this, the little famous plane now lies discarded after its 15 minutes of fame. From stardom, to a lost plane in the woods of Belgium.

The plane – A Ryan Navion

The Mayday Mayday plane is a 1940s Ryan Navion. The Ryan Navion was designed and built by North American Aviation. In later years, production was handled by the Ryan Aeronautical Company and later by the Tubular Steel Corporation (TUSCO). These planes are small single-engine, light fixed-wing aircraft. This small plane built to serve the post-war American market in 1948. It was envisioned that wartime pilots would want a recreational aircraft on their return to American, to fly friends and family. Later, they were also used by the United States Airforce.
