Powerplant T is an abandoned thermoelectric power plant in Italy. This ranks as one of the best preserved power plants I have explored in recent years. It can’t top the Art Deco majesty of Special K, or the pleasing colours of Lady In Red. Despite this, this location offered a wonderful industrial location to explore. I visited this location during the 2021 Italy Tour.
The thermoelectric power plant opened in the 1920s, was coal-powered. Eventually the plant became outdated as new technology arose, and was decommissioned in the 1960s. It was replaced by a new plant, which was progressively expanded before itself being relegated to redundancy in the mid-2010s.
Firstly, after entering the power plant, I made my way up the metal stairs to take in the overview of the turbine hall. The afternoon sun streamed in through the windows, lighting up the immense space perfectly. As per usual riskier-location protocol, the first objective was to get to an upper floor. The view across the turbine hall was pleasant, with no graffiti and fairly complete machinery. Always a treat!
Next stop was the main control room, with mustard-coloured walls. The consoles and walls lined with dials, buttons and switches. The floor featured a nice navy blue and white striped pattern. The large windows look out onto the lower level of the turbine hall. Walking through the control room deeper into the plant, filled with pipes related to the boiler systems.
As a final surprise, there was a second sort-of control room to enjoy. This smaller blue room gave the impression that this was more of an office. At the centre a big desk and simple electrical panels lining the walls. These seem to be more monitoring and data display. This was likely site manager’s office, or that of someone responsible for operations safety.

I just wanna say that I love these kind of pictures. The loneliness that they express and the implicit beauty of that.
Thanks Caroline, both for stopping by my little website and also for taking the time to leave a comment. I am also fascinated by the stories that lay hidden in the dust, of what becomes of spaces that we leave behind. Lonely beauty, is a very concise way to sum up many of these places 🙂
