Sometimes I wonder is Skynet is real, and we are destined to be taken over by cloud-based intelligence. Yesterday I was informed, by my website, that it was my 3 year anniversary. That’s cute, little eerie, but cute. An automated message from the ghost in the machine.
This seems like a good opportunity to share some of my First Posts, as well as my Top 10 Posts of the first 3 years of my website.
In that time I have made: 187 location posts and 31 news posts. Not bad going. Spread that over the 1095 days of my site’s life, that amounts to just over one post a week. Excellent, I have achieved the goal I set myself. So, I can have some cake now? Awesome!
Rather unoriginal (I know), but my first collection of posts were Chernobyl and Pripyat. Having recently visited, I thought this would make a nice set to kick-start my website. Here are some highlights (thankfully, I would like to think my photography skill has improved!).
You can view my all of my Chernobyl galleries here : Chernobyl Photography Gallery
The Top 10 pages (by page views) feature some content added very early on in the life of my site. These are the “classic” locations in France and Belgium, the chateaus featuring timeless elegance.
Cavern of Lost souls in an underground car graveyard in Wales. Beautiful light rays illuminate the wreckages and turquoise-green water.
The Red Star Train Graveyard is a collection of rusting steam engines. This collection of relics spans 140 years of Hungarian Transport history.
Chateau Secession is a French chateau with grand staircases and many paintings. There is a large canon in the main room, and billiard table in a side room.
Chateau Rolls Royce is an abandoned Belgian 18th century chateau, with a spectacularly overgrown greenhouse and orangery (orangerie). Reclamation by nature.
Manoir Colimaçon has a very striking, fairytale or Gothic exterior. The spiral staircase provides a very interesting photography subject.
Chateau Banana is an abandoned chateau in France, featuring some very kitschy and eclectic furniture.
Lost Vegas Arcade is a large collection of video game arcade cabinets and gambling machines. There are slot machines and video game cabinets.
The Cemetery of the Skull. The mouth is grotesquely agape in a centuries-long silent scream, resting on a pillow of crossed femur bones.
Lying forgotten in an affluent French suburb, a beautiful piano sits in an alcove beneath a sweeping stone staircase inside Chateau Verdure.
Forgotten MiGs are a collection of abandoned MiG-21 and Su-22 aircraft in Hungary. These were formerly part of the Hungarian Airforce (Magyar Légierő).
