Japanese Strip Club, Japan

This abandoned Japanese Strip Club stands at the roadside in a small village. Apparently, the name of this club translates to “Sightseeing Theatre”, “Tourist Theater”. Certainly, I do not doubt this club had many interesting sights to see. For adult eyes only. The theatre opened in the 1970s or 1980s and has been abandoned for some time, perhaps 20 years.

We visited this location in 2019, as we travelled across Japan in search of decay. This tour marked many”first time” experiences for me. For example, this was the first abandoned strip club I had ever visited. First, what struck me is how closely spaced the audience chairs were. The customers would literally be pressed up against each other. A delightful mental image. A sea of wide-eyed men, looking up at the pretty girls on stage.

Room 1 – The Japanese Strip Club Main Stage Room

A sign near hung on the wall indicates the entrance fee was 3000 yen. Walking passed the reception desk, we entered the main strip club room. It seems that this large room was where most of the “action” was. The room has magenta-pink walls. There are lanterns and floral strings/garlands hanging from the ceiling and above the stage.

There is a circular stage in the middle of the room. This was the main performance area, where a beautiful young girl would dance for the customer’s entertainment. A runway/catwalk connects this to the rear stage area. The rear of the stage has a backdrop, all part of the stage show.

Crowded around the strip club stage and catwalk are small red stools. There are around 100 of these, closely packed. Only around 20-30cm separate the stools. Additionally, there are 45 cinema-style folding chairs at the back of the room. Offering a slightly elevated view of the stage (and a little more personal space!)

Room 2 – The Smaller Back Room

Additionally, there was another “sightseeing” area. The second strip tease room is very similar, only smaller and (if possible) more depressing. This rooms has the same small red stools, also around 100 of them. The stage is the same format; circular performance area, connected to the read stage by a catwalk. Here the stage backdrop is a painted scenes of an eagle soaring over forests and mountains. Strange. There are more fake flower garlands decorating the stage, and one area of the wall.

    • For this one, I am not sure. I think maybe the population of this town declined and maybe tastes changed, just not enough business to stay open.
