Farmer Jack’s Old BMW, Belgium

Farmer Jack’s Old BMW lies in an old barn, next to an abandoned house in Belgium. The house is small, suggesting a simple occupant and a simple life. The whereabouts (or fate) of the owner, is not known. Evidently, the house has been abandoned for years, as we peered in through the window. However, the house is not the target. We sneak around the back of the house and approach the barn. Carefully we open up the large doors, which are rotting and falling off their hinges. We reveal Farmer Jack’s Old BMW, and what a wonderful photography subject it is! In the failing afternoon light, we closed the barn doors and left the blue BMW to collect more dust for a few more years.

I visited this location in 2017, during a short but eventful road trip around Belgium and Germany. Apparently, now the house is sold and the car has been removed. Hopefully, the car, like the house, has been saved and has a future with a new loving owner.

About Farmer Jack’s Car- BMW E3 (BMW New Six)

The car is a BMW E3, which is also known as the BMW New Six. Design work started in 1965. The cars were produced between 1968 and 1977, and all featured the newly designed M30 straight-6 engine. The car is a full-sized luxury sedan, made to compete with contemporary Mercedes-Benz sedans of the era. Shortened coupé versions were also manufactured, also known as the BMW E9.

These BMW New Six cars were the first to sport the twin headlights set into the grille. This feature became an iconic part of the BMW style in most 1980s and 1990s models.

This exact model appears to be a 2800 (2.8) version. This model had a larger engine, bigger tyres and tougher suspension compared to the contemporary 2500 (2.5). Both of these models were also exported to the US market, where they proved popular.
