Abandoned "Sunflower" Swimming Pool in France

In the mid-1970s to early 1980s 184 of these pools were built all over France

THE REASON

France did poorly in the 1968 Olympics swimming events. The government decided to build these pools, to encourage swimming to bring home gold in the future.

These are nicknamed "Tournesol", which means sunflower

Segments of the dome covering the pool could pivot open. This opening to enjoy the sun. A little like a sunflower turning to enjoy the sun!
